Best GeoGuessr Alternatives in 2026: Free Games Like GeoGuessr, Compared

Updated

GeoGuessr made a simple idea famous: drop players somewhere in the world and let them work out where they are. Today most of GeoGuessr sits behind a subscription, and its free plan centres on the Daily Challenge, so many players look for something else to play.

This guide compares nine games that scratch the same itch. Some are close copies of the GeoGuessr formula, some swap Street View for video, old photos or country outlines, and one (ours) turns Street View into a treasure hunt. For each one we explain how it plays, what is free, what needs an account and who it suits.

Huntaz is our game. We have described it by the same criteria as every other entry, and we say plainly where another game is the better fit.

What makes a good GeoGuessr alternative?

There is no single best replacement, because players love different parts of GeoGuessr. Before you pick one, decide which of these matters most to you:

  • Real-world imagery you can move through. Street View games let you walk down roads and look around. Photo and video games give you a fixed scene to study instead.
  • Fair free access. Some games are free and ad-supported, some limit how many rounds you can play each day, and some keep features for paying supporters.
  • Playing with other people. Duels, parties and team modes vary a lot, and some need an account or a paid tier to host.
  • Variety. Community maps, daily challenges and different modes keep a game fresh after the first week.
  • Where you can play. Every game here runs in a web browser, and a few also have phone apps.
  • A new objective. If you have played thousands of rounds of guess-the-location, a different goal, such as guessing the year or finding hidden treasure, can feel like a new game rather than a copy.

The 9 best GeoGuessr alternatives

  1. 1. Huntaz

Our game: Street View treasure hunt

Huntaz keeps the part of GeoGuessr many players enjoy most, walking through real streets in Google Street View, and gives you a different mission. Instead of working out where you are, you explore the location you are given and search for hidden treasure chests before time runs out.

Each chest you open adds Huntaz Points. Play a Quick Hunt on your own whenever you like, take on the Daily Hunt that every player gets the same day, or join Scheduled Multiplayer and Sponsored Multiplayer hunts with a team. You can also earn Huntaz Coins, which are in-game rewards with no cash value.

    Free access
Free to play with a free account
    Multiplayer
Scheduled Multiplayer and Sponsored Multiplayer team hunts, teams of up to four
    Platforms
Web browser on desktop and mobile, with nothing to download

Good for: players who love exploring Street View and want a goal other than pinning a map.

Worth knowing: it is not a location-guessing game. If you want to test how well you know countries, pick one of the guessers below.

  2. 2. WorldGuessr

    Street View location guessing

WorldGuessr is the closest match to the classic GeoGuessr round. You are placed somewhere in Street View, look for clues, and drop a pin on the map. The closer the pin, the more points you score.

Its own site says every mode is free with unlimited rounds, paid for by ads. You can play single player without an account. A free account unlocks ranked 1v1 duels and 2v2 team duels, and you can also play unranked matches or private parties with friends.

    Free access
    Free, supported by ads
    Account
Not needed for single player; free account for ranked duels and 2v2
    Platforms
Browser, plus iOS and Android apps

Good for: players who want the GeoGuessr formula, including competitive duels, without a subscription.

Worth knowing: it is an independent game, not affiliated with GeoGuessr, and it shows ads.

  3. 3. OpenGuessr

    Street View location guessing

OpenGuessr is another free, browser-based Street View guessing game. You can start without creating an account, choose from a large library of community maps, and play at your own pace or against a timer.

For playing with others it offers multiplayer lobbies, which its site says need no account, plus ranked duels and competitions. Its site says no mode is locked behind a paywall: ads pay for it, and paid supporter tiers add perks such as badges and, from the second tier, an ad-free experience.

  4. 4. Geotastic

    Multiplayer geo quiz

Geotastic describes itself as a free, crowdfunded, multiplayer-focused geo quiz built around Google Street View. It is designed for playing with friends at the same time in shared lobbies.

Beyond classic rounds it has party modes such as Geobingo, where players hunt through Street View for scenes that fill a bingo card. Its help pages say playing needs a free account, while guests can still join a lobby. According to its donations page, supporter levels come from one-time donations and unlock extras such as bigger lobbies and the map editor.

  5. 5. Hide and Seek World

    Street View hide and seek

Hide and Seek World flips the usual idea around. One player picks a hiding spot on the world map, and the others explore Street View, reading signs, buildings and landscape, to work out where they are hiding. The closer your guess, the more points you earn.

Public multiplayer games are free and supported by ads, and private 1v1 rooms are free too. Paid memberships add larger private rooms, remove street names from Street View and remove ads for the room. Quick Play needs no account.

Free public games and 1v1 rooms; paid memberships for bigger rooms

Good for: a social, party-style twist on location guessing.

Worth knowing: private rooms for more than two players need a paid membership.

  6. 6. Streetviewr

    Country guessing

Streetviewr shows you real Google Street View scenes and asks you to name the country, over ten rounds per game. There is also a daily challenge and a leaderboard.

Free members get a set number of games each day, and a paid Premium plan adds unlimited games and extra modes. Free players need to sign up before they can move around in Street View. The site has no ads and accepts donations.

    Good for: quick country-recognition practice.

Worth knowing: you guess the country only, not an exact spot, and free play is capped each day.

  7. 7. City Guesser

    Video location guessing

City Guesser, part of the Virtual Vacation site, uses real walking and driving videos instead of Street View. You watch the street come to life, with traffic and people moving around you, then click the map to guess where you are.

A Time Challenge stops the video after a set number of seconds, and there is a multiplayer mode. The site says it is free for everyone and asks players to support it with donations.

Good for: players who find moving video more atmospheric than still panoramas.

Worth knowing: you cannot walk around freely; you watch where the camera goes.

  8. 8. TimeGuessr

    Photo history and geography

TimeGuessr adds a second question to every round: when? You look at a historical photograph and guess both where and in which year it was taken. It offers a daily challenge, random games, multiplayer and quizzes made by its community.

Its home page does not state its pricing, so check the official site for current free-play terms.

Good for: history fans who want more than geography.

Worth knowing: photos are fixed scenes; there is no exploring.

  9. 9. Worldle

    Daily country puzzle

Worldle is a short daily puzzle rather than a Street View game. You see the outline of a country and have six attempts to name it. After each wrong answer you are shown how far away and in which direction the right country is.

The daily game is free in your browser with no download. Older puzzles in the archive need a Teuteuf Games account and a Premium membership.

Free, freemium or subscription: what the labels mean

"Free GeoGuessr alternative" can mean quite different things. Here is how the games in this guide fund themselves, so you know what to expect before you start.

Free and supported by ads

WorldGuessr and OpenGuessr let you play their main modes without paying and show ads to cover their costs. OpenGuessr also sells optional supporter perks.

Free with optional extras

Geotastic, Hide and Seek World and Worldle are free to play, with paid options for extras such as bigger private rooms, removing ads or an archive of past puzzles. City Guesser is free and asks for donations.

Free with a daily limit

Streetviewr gives free members a set number of games per day, with a paid plan for more. GeoGuessr itself works in a similar spirit: its official free page lists the Daily Challenge as needing no subscription, while its other modes, such as duels, party games and its map library, are included in a subscription.

Huntaz

Huntaz is free to play. Create a free account, open the game in your browser and start hunting for treasure.

A different objective

Why Huntaz is different from location-guessing games

Every other Street View game on this list asks the same question: where am I? Huntaz asks a different one: where is the treasure?

You know which city you are in. The challenge is to explore its streets, look carefully at your surroundings and find the chests hidden around the location before the clock runs out. In multiplayer hunts your team needs enough Huntaz Points at each location to stay in the race.

  • Quick Hunt: a solo run whenever you want one.
  • Daily Hunt: the same hunt for everyone each day, with a leaderboard.
  • Scheduled Multiplayer and Sponsored Multiplayer: team treasure hunts against other players.
